  • What is a 2 Way DIN Flanged Stainless Steel Ball Valve with high temperature seats?

A two way DIN flanged stainless steel ball valve is constructed of two separate body pieces and held together by stainless steel bolts connecting both sections against each other. It has an DIN flange (this is just the flange standard it suits) at either end which is used to connect to the pipework. The valve has a direct mounting ISO pad on the top (this is so you can bolt an actuator directly to the valve without the use of a bracket & drive dog) and a square drive. It is operated either by a lockable handle or an IP67 gear box. It has live loaded packings and seats that are equal parts stainless steel and PTFE allowing temperatures up to 220 degrees celsius (refer to the pressure vs temperature graph).

  • How does a Two Way DIN Flanged Stainless Steel Ball Valve work?

The 2 way DIN flanged ball valve works the same as any normal two way ball valve whereby the ball is rotated 90 degrees within the body of the valve which will either open or close the valve. The ball itself has a hole either end which the media will flow through when it is open. When the valve is closed these holes are blocked off to the flow effectively isolating the media either side of the valve. The ball is turned by a handle or gearbox (or actuator) which is connected to a shaft which in turn is mated to the ball by a female slot. When it is operated by a handle (our handles are lockable) there is a stop pin which only allows you to operate the valve in a 90 degree turn (this will take you from open to close or vice versa). When it is operated by a gear box the gear box will hit its stop on the worm drive which will not let the ball rotate past 90 degrees.

  • How long will my DIN Flanged Two Way Stainless Steel Ball Valve last?

Like any valve this depends upon the usage case of your ball valve, its environment, media and how many times it is cycled. For instance if it is on a clean media, in a clean environment and not cycled regularly the life will be decades. If it is on a corrosive media and in a dry application with a high cycle rate the life will be much shorter. We conduct regular lab testing and 30,000 cycles is a reasonable life cycle depending upon the application. Being a 2 piece flanged construction it is relatively easy to remove the ball valve from the line and change the seats & seals out if they are worn. These are available as a complete repair kit.

  • How do I install a two way DIN Stainless Steel Ball Valve?

Before starting ensure that the line has no pressure in it, especially if it is a replacement of an existing valve. As this is an DIN flanged 2 way valve it will need to be fitted between two of the same flanges (DIN standard) in the pipework. Between the mated flanges will need to be a gasket to ensure a positive seal. The type of gasket will depend upon the media and temperature, for instance a water application may use EPDM or NBR whereas a steam application may use graphite, expanded ptfe or a spiral wound gasket. The bolts should be fitted and then tightened in a diagonal direction to ensure an even fastening force across the face of the flange (for bolt torque refer to the flange standard). Once this is done slowly bring the line up to working pressure and inspect for leaks around the flanges to ensure the gasket has sealed correctly. If it is a gas and difficult to see soapy water can be sprayed over the areas in question to check for bubbles.

  • How do I maintain a two way DIN Stainless Steel Ball Valve?

There is essentially no maintenance required on these ball valves except for a routine visual inspection to ensure the valve is sealing. As it is used as an isolation valve it should also be checked on your routine maintenance schedule that the valve is still isolating. This can be done either visually if you can see or hear the outlet after the valve or by using a downstream pressure gauge to ensure no media is passing. The valve itself uses a body gasket so the two pieces can be removed from each other to inspect the inside of the valve including the ball and seats. Spare seats, body gasket and steam orings are available as a complete repair kit. The stem utilises an oring seal and chevron washes and a live loaded packing so no maintenance is needed in terms of tightening a gland seal (like other valve designs).

  • How do I troubleshoot a two way DIN Stainless Steel Ball Valve?

Problems are very rare with these ball valves as all come fully cycle and pressure tested. Usually a problem stems from either an issue with the install or an external factor such as debris in the line. The most common would be where the gasket is not properly sealed between the two flanges when installing the valve. This can be corrected by removing the valve and checking to make sure the gasket has proper alignment and then reinstalling the valve. There is a full troubleshooting guide on manual ball valves found under this link.

  • What are typical uses of a two piece DIN flanged stainless steel ball valve with 50/50 seats?

These two wayDIN flanged ball valves with the high temperature seats are mainly used in high temperature applications such as steam and thermal oil.

  • How long will my product take to get to me?

This depends upon where you are based and the freight method chosen. If the express freight option is selected it is usually next day delivery to metropolitan areas in Australia for under 5kg. If free freight has been selected it will go by road freight which can be anywhere from 1 to 10 days depending upon your location. It usually averages 3 days.

  • What warranty do I get?

All of our products come standard with a 12 month warranty. The good news is we have very strict quality controls and all valves leave our warehouse tested (full material and testing certificates to API598 are available) and inspected so there are rarely any issues. Also once your valve is in and operating it will most likely continue to do so for a very long time.
