  • What is an Air Silencer?

In this case we are referring to Air Silencers as a broad subset of fittings that are screwed into the exhaust ports of valves. They are designed to lower the noise of the air being expelled from the valve as well as control the speed in the case of an exhaust regulator. They also serve a secondary purpose of keeping suspended solids out of the valve giving it a degree of protection.

  • How does an Air Silencer/Regulator work?

These can be made of a range of different materials but our range is made up of two main materials; brass and stainless steel. The outside of the fitting is threaded so it will go into the female exhaust port of the valve while the middle of the fitting holds a sintered surface which the air is dispersed through. Some also come with the ability to adjust the flow by restricting the flow rate passing through the silencer (exhaust speed controller). This is done with a basic needle valve arrangement that can be wound in or out. This gives the user the ability to control the speed of operation of a pneumatic actuator.

  • How long will my Air Silencer Regulator last?

This depends upon the environment that the air silencer operates in. For corrosive environments choose stainless steel as it will have a greater resistance. The units themselves see very little mechanical wear as it is only the air flowing in and out of the valve. The most common occurence is that they get blocked with dirt from the surrounding environment. They are meant to do this as they are protecting that dirt from going into the valve. They can usually be cleaned but may sometimes need to be replaced (it is a lot cheaper to replace these than your valve which is why they should be used).

  • How do I install an Air Silencer on Valves?

Silencers and Exhaust Regulators will be threaded into the female exhaust ports on your valve or pneumatic actuator. Thread tape or sealant can be used if the user would like however they are not needed as air will exhaust from this port so a bubble tight seal is not required.

  • What are typical uses of an Air Silencer or Silencer/Regulator combo?

The most common usage case would be on 5/2 valves such as namur solenoid valves or manually operated 5/2 valves. They are also commonly used on the exhaust ports of actuators where they are controlled by a 3/2 valve. Outside of this there are many other use cases such as exhausts of pressure relief valves, really anywhere air is exhausted there is a potential application.

  • How long will my product take to get to me?

This depends upon where you are based and the freight method chosen. If the express freight option is selected it is usually next day delivery to metropolitan areas in Australia for under 5kg. If free freight has been selected it will go by road freight which can be anywhere from 1 to 10 days depending upon your location. It usually averages 3 days.

  • What warranty do I get?

All of our products come standard with a 12 month warranty. The good news is we have very strict quality controls and all valves leave our warehouse tested and inspected so there are rarely any issues. Also once your valve is in and operating it will most likely continue to do so for a very long time barring any debris blocking it up.
