316 Stainless Steel Pressure Relief Valve with a 316 Stainless Steel / reinforced PTFE seat. Ideal for sanitary systems, steam and other industrial applications. The relieving pressure is set by turning down the setting nut under the top cap. Not for Safety Relief application. For Liquid applications we recommend our Closed Cap Relief Valves.

  • What is a Stainless Steel Easing Gear Pressure Relief Valve?

A Stainless Steel Easing Gear Pressure Relief Valve is a device which will relieve the internal media once a preset pressure is reached. The main body, entry and internals are all 316 Stainless Steel. The inlet port is on the bottom of the valve while the outlet is out the side. The unit has a manual lever (commonly called easing gear within the industry) at the top which can be lifted to manually open the valve and let the media flow through the valve.

  • How does a Stainless Steel Easing Gear Pressure Relief Valve work?

In its simplest terms these are a relationship between the media pressure applied under the seat vs the spring pressure applied above the seat. Once the media pressure that is acting on the underside of the seat is greater than the force applied on the top of the seat by the spring tension then it will rise opening the inlet to the outlet. Once this pressure decreases and the force of the spring is greater then it will be lowered back down closing off the flow. The spring tension can be adjusted within its setting range by loosening the locking nut and then tightening or loosening the spindle. The lever at the top of the valve can be lifted which will manually lift the seat allowing the media to flow through the valve.

  • How do I know that a Stainless Steel Lever Pressure Relief Valve is the right valve for me?

The first thing to check is whether you are after a Pressure Relief Valve such as this model or a safety valve. The main difference is these pressure relief valves will be lifted off their seat gradually as the pressure increases and may not fully open unless the spring is all the way compressed into the roof cavity. A safety valve on the other hand will reach its full flow as soon as the setting pressure is reached. Once you are happy with selecting this pressure relief you need to make sure the setting pressure is within the range selected and the media and temperature are applicable with the materials in the valve. You will also need to decide whether an easing gear is right for you. This allows a manual check of the valve by squeezing the lever at the top however this will let media out to atmosphere as the top of the valve is not sealed (unlike a closed cap unit), so they are not for all applications. There are other external factors such as environment but once you have selected the above you are well on your way to choosing the right valve for your application.

  • How long will my Stainless Steel Easing Gear Pressure Relief Valve last?

Like any valve this depends upon the usage case, duty cycle and external environment of the valve. The pressure, temperature and characteristics of the media (eg. is it corrosive, clean etc) will have a large bearing on how long your valve lasts. If your valve is cycling every second, 24 hours a day then its life will be shorter than one which is used once a day.

  • What are typical uses of a Stainless Steel Pressure Relief Valve with a Lever ?

These are primarily used to vent pressure from a system once it reaches a certain point. This covers a very wide range of applications however they are not used on pressure vessels such as boilers where a safety valve is needed (reaches full capacity as soon as the set point is reached). The added feature of an easing gear allows a manual check of the valve however this needs to be balanced with the fact that this will vent some media to atmosphere when pressed so the media characteristics must be accounted for. They are commonly used in corrosive environments where other body materials are not as well suited as Stainless Steel such as water treatment or saline areas.

  • How do I set and install my Easing Gear Stainless Steel Pressure Relief Valve?

If your Pressure Relief Valve is not preset you will need to set your relief point. This can be done either in the line if it is safe to do so or on a test rig. Alternatively it can be done on a compressor with a regulator to vary the pressure. You will need to adjust the stem clockwise or anti clockwise depending upon whether you are increasing or decreasing the set point. Once it is reached, tighten the locking nut to keep this position then put the cap back on the valve. It can now be installed in the line. The inlet thread is tapered BSP so thread tape or sealant must be used to make a seal. The outlet may be vented to atmosphere or piped back to a reservoir depending upon your media.

  • How long will my product take to get to me?

This depends upon where you are based and the freight method chosen. If the express freight option is selected it is usually next day delivery to metropolitan areas in Australia for under 5kg. If free freight has been selected it will go by road freight which can be anywhere from 1 to 10 days depending upon your location. It usually averages 3 days. You can rely on us to do everything to despatch your order the same day we receive it, this is what we do.

  • What warranty do I get?

We have been manufacturing Valves for over 30 years so we have a lot of experience at making a great valve. All of our products come standard with a 12 month warranty from invoice date. The good news is we have very strict quality controls and all pressure relief valves leave our warehouse tested (full material and testing certificates are available) and inspected so there are rarely any issues. Also once your valve is in and operating it will most likely continue to do so for a very long time barring any debris getting caught in the valve.
