316L Stainless Steel Pigtail Syphone made out of schedule 80 pipe. Ideal for use on steam lines where a pressure gauge is needed. The pigtail syphon will protect the gauge from excessive heat by condensate forming in the bend of the pigtail.

  • What is a Stainless Steel Pigtail Syphon?

A stainless steel pigtail syphon is a bent piece of schedule stainless steel pipe (they can be made of other pipe and materials) that forms a circle with a straight on either end. Each end has a male thread on it to allow the attachment of a pressure gauge and gauge cock (ball valve). They can also be formed using other shapes such as a 'U' shape however the circle with a straight at either end is the most common.

  • How does a Pigtail Syphon work?

A pigtail syphon works by allowing condensate to form (from steam heat dissapation with the cooler wall of the pigtail syphon) and collect in the circle part of the syphon that is facing towards the gauge. This condensate that has formed cant escape so it forms a temperature barrier between the pressure gauge and the steam in the line. The gauge can still accurately read the pressure as this freely passes through the condensate barrier but the temperature is limited therefore protecting your pressure gauge.

  • How long will my Pigtail Syphon last?

This depends upon a number of factors inlcuding the makeup of your steam, the environment it is in and the pressure it is exposed too. Been made of heavy walled schedule 80 316L stainless steel pipe it is built to last a very long time. It will typically outlast your gauge by a large amount as it has no moving parts.

  • How do I install a Pigtail Syphon?

There should be no steam in the line at the time of installation or it should be isolated from the area of install. A ball valve (gauge cock) with a female connection is used as isolation for the pigtail syphon from the pressure gauge and this allows it to be easily removed if required in the future. We recomend a stainless steel ball valve such as our BVS series, but any with the correct pressure and temperature rating can be used. The other male end of the pigtail is usually tapped directly into the steam line where the pressure is you want to measure.

  • What are typical uses of a Pigtail Syphon?

These are predominately used in the steam industry so any application that has steam and the pressure needs to be read. These include the food process industry, beverage industry, hospitals, chemical processing and any other applicable industry. Being a stainless steel construction they are very commonly used in food processing plants where a caustic washdown is used.

  • How long will my product take to get to me?

This depends upon where you are based and the freight method chosen. If the express freight option is selected it is usually next day delivery to metropolitan areas in Australia for under 5kg. If free freight has been selected it will go by road freight which can be anywhere from 1 to 10 days depending upon your location. It usually averages 3 days.

  • What warranty do I get?

All of our products come standard with a 12 month warranty. The good news is we have very strict quality controls and all valves leave our warehouse tested (full material and testing certificates to API598 are available) and inspected so there are rarely any issues. Also once your valve is in and operating it will most likely continue to do so for a very long time.
