Valve Leakage & Testing

Leakage Rates and Corresponding Testing Standards

When a valve is used or specified within the industry it is common place to ask for the accompanying test and inspection reports which should relate back to a heat number on the valve itself. This is because that valve has been built and tested to a specific standard. In application almost all valves leak to some degree even if it is not observable. To determine weather the valve in question actaully has a leak it must be tested agains the standard it is built or tested too. Some of the most common standards found are below;

  • API598
  • API6D
  • ANSI/FCI 70-2 (superceded ANSI B16.104)
  • MSS SP-61
