  • What is a Brass Gate Valve?

A Brass Gate Valve is a manual isolation valve designed to start or stop the flow of fluid within a pipeline. The valve body and internal components are made from high quality brass, offering excellent corrosion resistance and durability in a wide range of water, gas and light industrial applications. This valve has parallel BSP female threaded connections, meaning it is designed to be installed onto male BSP threaded pipework or fittings. The PTFE resilient seat and wedge provide a secure shut-off when the valve is closed.

  • How does a Brass Gate Valve work?

A gate valve operates by moving a disc-shaped gate perpendicular to the flow path. Turning the hand wheel rotates the stem which either lifts the gate out of the way to allow flow or lowers it down to block the flow. When fully open, the gate retracts into the body, creating a full bore straight-through flow path with minimal resistance or pressure drop. These valves are designed for on/off isolation and are not suitable for throttling or flow regulation, as partially opening the gate can cause vibration, turbulence and accelerated wear on the seating surfaces.

  • How long will my Brass Gate Valve last?

Like any valve, service life depends on the application, media, operating environment and how often the valve is cycled. In clean media, clean conditions and with moderate use, a stainless steel gate valve can last for many years. In harsher environments with corrosive fluids or frequent cycling, the life may be shorter.

  • How do I install a Brass Gate Valve?

Before installation, ensure the pipeline is fully depressurised. This gate valve has female BSP threaded ends, so matching male BSP tapered threaded fittings should be installed into the pipeline first. Thread sealant or thread tape should be used to ensure a positive seal and help minimise corrosion where dissimilar metals are used. Thread the valve onto the pipe fittings, ensuring it is aligned correctly. Once installed, slowly pressurise the line and inspect for any leaks around the connections. Regular operation from fully open to fully closed positions after installation helps ensure smooth operation.

  • What are typical uses of a Brass Gate Valve?

Brass gate valves with BSP threaded ends are commonly used where reliable isolation is required in lower-pressure fluid systems. Typical applications includes domestic and commercial plumbing, potable water distribution, irrigation systems, compressed air and gas lines (non-critical) and general industrial utilities. Brass’s corrosion resistance and BSP threading make this valve ideal for plumbing and fluid systems where BSP connections are standard.

  • How long will my product take to get to me?

This depends upon where you are based and the freight method chosen. If the express freight option is selected it is usually next day delivery to metropolitan areas in Australia for under 5kg. If free freight has been selected it will go by road freight which can be anywhere from 1 to 10 days depending upon your location. It usually averages 3 days.

  • What warranty do I get?

All of our products come standard with a 12 month warranty. The good news is we have very strict quality controls and all valves leave our warehouse tested (full material and testing certificates to API598 are available) and inspected so there are rarely any issues. Also once your valve is in and operating it will most likely continue to do so for a very long time.
